Everyone is welcomed to a panel discussion and exhibition on the work of the German architect Bruno Taut, organized by The German Diplomatic Missions in Turkey and the Department of Architecture of Bilkent University in collaboration with Yaşar University, Faculty of Architecture.

 

The panel discussion is on December 2nd, Saturday, at 14:30 in the seminar hall of the Chamber of Architects in İzmir. The panel comprises the guest speakers Dr. Paola Ardizzola (Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cardiff), Prof. Gülsüm Baydar (Yaşar University, İzmir), Cemre Birand (Journalist and Writer, İstanbul), Claudia Haas-Prandolini (Baukulturelle Vermittlung, Hamburg). The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Giorgio Gasco (Bilkent University, Ankara).

 

The thematic exhibition will be displayed on December 1-10, also at the Chamber of Architects. Titled, “2 Countries, 2 Houses, 1 Architect. Bruno Taut and the house to live in: from Dahlewitz to Ortaköy (1926-1938)” the exhibition is curated by Dr. Giorgio Gasco from the Department of Architecture of Bilkent University. It showcases a set of architectural drawings edited by the curator’s team and reproductions of original documents derived from several archive sources (Bruno Taut Sammlung-Akademie der Künste, Berlin; Bruno Taut collection–Waseda University Library/Iwanami Shoten, Tokyo; Salt Research Archive, Istanbul; Vekam, Ankara). This exhibition is supplemented by a side display on “Bruno Taut in İzmir: the Republican Institute for Girls and the Culture Pavilion (1937-1938)” curated by the Faculty of Architecture of Yaşar University.
