PROJECT DESCRIPTION / PROJE TANIMI

Introduction to Architecture is a compulsory course given in the first semester of the architectural curriculum. The main aim of the course is to examine and comprehending the basic vocabulary and principles of architectural design as a specialized discipline with interdisciplinary links. Seeing the larger picture, that is, the context of the discipline of architecture with the social, cultural, aesthetic, and technical causes-and-effects refers to the scope of the course: this picture can be read by analyzing the elements of design and space, and figuring out their relationships with the whole. Within this scope, the students have learned and applied both analytical and synthetical design procedures in their works. In the midterm, they have designed the collage-works representing imaginary spaces reserved for the musical genres covering classical, rock and jazz, and analyzed those collages regarding the composition principles and geometrical relationships. In the final, they have designed narrative spaces for imaginary animal-clients moving from their native lands to city-centers, and for this purpose, they have chosen one of the following species as a client: firefly, chameleon, snake, owl, penguin, alligator, hedgehog, bat. The students have written scenarios reflecting the weekend days of the clients, and designed residences specific to their needs, in the city-centers.

Mimarlığa Giriş, mimarlık müfredatının ilk yarıyılında verilen zorunlu bir derstir. Dersin temel amacı, disiplinler arası bağlantıları olan özel bir disiplin olarak mimari tasarımın temel kelime ve ilkelerini incelemek ve anlamaktır. Daha büyük resmi görmek, yani mimarlık disiplininin sosyal, kültürel, estetik ve teknik neden-sonuçları ile bağlamı, dersin kapsamını ifade eder. Bu resim, tasarım ve mekan öğelerini analiz ederek ve bütünle olan ilişkilerini çözerek okunabilir. Bu kapsamda öğrenciler, çalışmalarında hem analitik hem de sentetik tasarım prosedürlerini öğrenmiş ve uygulamışlardır. Ara sınavda klasik, rock ve caz gibi müzik türlerine ayrılmış hayali mekanları temsil eden kolaj-eserler tasarlamışlar ve bu kolajları kompozisyon ilkeleri ve geometrik ilişkiler açısından analiz etmişlerdir. Finalde ise anavatanlarından şehir merkezlerine taşınan hayali hayvan-müşteriler için anlatı alanları tasarlamışlar ve bu amaçla müşteri olarak şu türlerden birini seçmişlerdir: ateş böceği, bukalemun, yılan, baykuş, penguen, timsah, kirpi, yarasa. Öğrenciler, şehir merkezlerinde müşterilerin hafta sonu günlerini yansıtan senaryolar kaleme alarak ihtiyaçlarına özel konutlar tasarladılar.
