The project area is in very close relation with the Tarihi Asansör, in Turgut Reis Mahallesi, Konak. Building area is located between Şehit Nihatbey Caddesi And Halit Rıfat Paşa Caddesi. But since this project is expecting the students to work on urban design as well, the complete intervension area will be considered between Mithatpaşa Caddesi and Şehit Nihatbey Caddesi.
The project area is providing a very unique combination of environmental factors. These can be listed as; being close to a historical area where we can examine numerous historical buildings which demonstrate the unique architectural character of the city, being side to side with Tarihi Asansör which is one of the architectural symbols of İzmir, facing a piece of natural land which has a strong character of topography that is almost impossible to find in such a dense urban area and having an uninterrupted vista towards the Gulf of İzmir.
The project name “The Lift” both refers to Tarihi Asansör and the rising affect that the steep topography on the project. The project initially rises from the dense neighborhood, in sync with the topography and towards the Bay of İzmir. The strategies connecting this city part to the close surrounding is the main design problem.
