PROJECT DESCRIPTION / PROJE TANIMI

The main concern of the ARCH 1122 History and Theories of Architecture and Urbanism I is examining the reasons of the emergence, evolution and extinguishment of architectural styles under the light of spacewise and timewise transformations. During the term, the students have designed collages related to the importance of the history of architecture, and the architectural phases/styles such as the Prehistoric, Far Eastern and Indian architectures, Early Christian, Early Islamic, Romanesque, and Gothic.

In the collage, the Early Christian architecture, its pagan roots, and legacy to the Early Islamic and later Christian architectures are represented. The photographs, drawings, and images of the art and architecture works are integrated to form the content of the collage.

In the collage, the Gothic architecture with its architectural features such as the vertical emphasis of the spaces, gargoyles, and rose windows are represented with prominent examples from the period. The photographs and generic images of the graphic-art and architecture works are integrated to form the content of the collage.

In the collage, Japanese architecture as one of the most ancient architectural languages of the Far Eastern cultures is represented with its narrative quality in spaces and architectural features. The photographs and images of the Japanese art and architecture works are integrated to form the content of the collage.

In the collage, the question of “Why should we learn history of architecture” is tried to be answered by focusing on the legacies of the periods in a narrative context.
